Privacy policy
This page explains what data TestyFight collects, what it is used for, how long it is kept, who can see it and what each person can do with their own. It can be read without an account.
What data is collected
- Answers, scores and results
- Used to calculate the result of each test and to build comparisons with other people.
- A completed result with no account to claim it is deleted 24 months after completion. A result claimed by an account is no longer subject to that limit and depends only on the account for as long as it exists.
- Device identifier
- Lets you resume a test in progress and locate, on this same device, results made without an account.
- An unfinished attempt that has expired is deleted 30 days after expiring (60 days from its last activity). An attempt abandoned when replaced by another is deleted 30 days after being abandoned.
- Account email and display name
- Identify whoever signs in with an account and show their name to other people in their comparisons. The email is never shown to anyone else.
- An unverified account left inactive is deleted 7 days after creation. A verified account is kept for as long as it exists and is deleted, along with everything that belongs to it, when its holder deletes it.
- Comparison participations
- Record who is part of each comparison session, to build the comparison and so each participant can leave it.
- A participation is kept for as long as the session and the account or device that holds it exist. A session disappears once it has no participants left.
Storage on your device
TestyFight stores a device identifier, a session cookie and a cookie that remembers your decision about usage measurement on your device. All three are technical and required for the product to work: no storage is used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Usage measurement
TestyFight measures, in aggregate, how people browse the catalog, take tests, create and open comparisons, and share, to detect where the experience breaks down and what works best.
No event contains anything that identifies a person: no email, no display name, no account or device identifier, no network address, nothing that is written or answered. The data never leaves the product: it is not shared with third parties and is not used for advertising.
Each event is kept for 25 months and is automatically deleted after that. This is the time needed to compare one period with the same period the year before.
This measurement requires prior acceptance: until a decision is recorded, no event is recorded, and the default state is not to measure.
The decision can be changed at any time, in either direction, from this same page and from the privacy and data screen in the panel. Withdrawing consent stops measurement from that moment on, but does not delete what has already been recorded: since it carries no identifier, what has already been recorded cannot be located or linked to whoever generated it.
Usage measurement
This device's usage is not being measured.
Who sees what
Every completed result has a visibility, which its owner can change at any time.
With link. Anyone who knows the address of the result can open it. This is the state a test is completed in.
Private. Only its owner can open it. Anyone who tries to open the address of a private result gets the same "not found" page as for a made-up address: nothing reveals that the result exists.
A result's visibility does not affect the comparisons it takes part in: what other people in a session see is governed by the comparison's own rules, not by this visibility.
What this product doesn't control
- A preview a social network generated before a link was taken down may still be in that network's cache even though the result has already been deleted or made private.
- Anyone who saw a result while it was available may have copied or saved it on their own; making the result private or deleting it does not undo that copy.
What each person can do
From their own result, account or device, anyone can:
- Hide a result by changing its visibility to private, and share it again whenever they want.
- Leave a comparison they are taking part in.
- Delete a result, an unfinished attempt, the data stored on this device, or their whole account.
- Download their own data as a structured file.
